Sunday Marathons: Coupling
The Cast of Coupling

One of my favorite television shows ever, is the British comedy Coupling. I discovered it in college on Valentines night 2002 when I was in my dorm room in the all-girls dorm. Before I knew it, I was sucked into the lives of Steve, Susan, Sally, Patrick, Jeff and Jane.
I was really thankful that when I went home for the summer to my Dad’s house that they also had the BBCAmerica so I could watch the show some more. NBC even tried to do an American version. It just didn’t work out. A few odd casting choices and odd uses of the original scripts.
It only has 28 episodes; it’s great for viewing on icky Sunday afternoons or late at night when you just can’t sleep. Actually just the other evening a twitter conversation started on just how wonderful the series was. So of course the next morning I watched some of it off Netflix streaming. Here are some of my favorite moments:
The Spiderman Dance: http://youtu.be/mz6iBEP96FE
The Giggle Loop: http://youtu.be/-iKjkPgVQcE
Reservoir Dogs: http://youtu.be/QJin_X8NrxQ
Men and Women Bathrooms: http://youtu.be/GkU8PAVXo98
It’s a wonderful show about relationships; how to navigate a new one with each other and your friends. Also the awkward moment when you’re ex, now becomes your new love interests friend.
This show also introduced me to Jack Davenport, I adore him. He played Steve the main male of the show. I got all excited when I saw him in the movie The Wedding Date, and then again when he showed up on Flash Forward. To be honest, if I watch Smash it will be only because I saw him in the commercial for it.
Sarah Alexander played Susan, Steve’s new girlfriend. I’ve seen her in a couple of US things, mostly a show called Teachers which was on NBC and did not last very long. Though she has been in the UK Series, The Worst Week of my Life which I catch once in a while on PBS.
Watching these two play off each other is always a joy for me. Especially when you add in the supporting cast as well. It’s a fun journey watching the characters of Steve and Susan fall in love, try to make it work, break up, make up and start acting like grown ups.
It is also a great widely available show to be able to enjoy marathon viewings. Hulu has it (http://www.hulu.com/coupling) and so does Netflix. Not to mention all the great parts you can find on youtube.
Do you enjoy coupling? What’s your favorite scene?
